So much happening….great times ahead I feel.

It feels like an absolute age since I last posted but I can assure you it is not from my laziness! So many things have happened – nearly all of them to do with my sewing. Where shall I start?…..

First off, I am writing a book! Yes you read that correctly a book. Well many of you will have seen/read my tutorial on how to sew a shirt in 20 steps (in fact I get a huge amount of hits every day on that one post!) and recently someone mentioned turning it into a better structured format, so a book it will be. The book is being written for complete beginners and for the more experienced sewers which in itself is a challenge. Hopefully the book will be available before Christmas. I shall be having a book ‘Give away’ when it is ready, for 5 lucky  subscribers to my blog. So to be in with a chance of getting my book subscribe today!

In my last post I told you about my ‘Neapolitan’ jacket make and that has been one project on the go.
As I intend to blog about the full make, in detail, it has taken a long time to complete the jacket, due to writing notes down and taking the multitude of photos needed for the blog but the jacket is looking rather good so far. Just need to fit the half-lining and buttons.
Here’s a sneak-peek

My wedding dress client popped over for a toile fitting and picked her fabric. She waded through the beautiful Carrington fabric book and chose some lovely silk. Now I can begin the long careful construction which I am really looking forward to.

Great news on the Blogging front too! If you look on the right you will see a new badge. Yes thats right I am now part of the Minerva Crafts Bloggers Network – The MCBN is a group of very talented Bloggers from around the world and i will be part of the network. I can’t wait to submit my first blog for them and I’m also very honoured to be a part of the MCBN. I am definitely really excited about my first few makes. The lovely Vicki, at Minerva Crafts, has been brilliant to deal with and super quick to dispatch my goody bag: I have already started the first make….more on that soon.

I have also made my wife a lovely blouse from this months ‘Love Sewing‘ magazine (Issue 16 out in the shops tomorrow!) and have some lovely stretch net fabric for another version to be made soon.

I think that is all! Blimey, now I know why I have been a little slow blogging lately! I promise the next Blog will be sooner.

Until next time, Happy sewing!

  1. How exciting, your very own book. A book on this topic is sadly missing out there. Even David Coffin doesn't provide this kind of details in his 2 shirt books. His books are sadly missing on the step by step construction details. I use your shirt step by step guide all the time now, including your jacket construction details.

Do you have an outline for your book that you can share with us, so we can get a preview of the content. Looking forward to it.

Thanks, I will be sending details about the book to my subscribers in due course. Hopefully it will cover everything.

  2. Very exciting, indeed! I am looking forward to your book. I also hope you will show us a peek at your wedding dress experience. Of course the Neapolitan is something I look forward to as well. Very impressive!

Hi, yes I will keep track of the wedding dress make and blog about it fully (after the wedding!) thanks for your kind words

  3. As a male sewer and avid shirt lover I would love to learn how to make my own shirts. This sounds just the type of information I need, so I'm looking forward to the finished article.
