I want you to come and join me! I have exciting plans for 2021.
As I mentioned in my last post, we know this year has been far from ideal and although I have been lucky and managed to keep sewing, there was something that I have put off for a long time.
After ‘lockdown’ restrictions were eased I made a trip to my local fabric store and whilst there I bumped into a good friend of mine Vanessa. In fact, I first met her in the said same shop many years ago. We had a good, ‘face covered – socially distanced’, catch up and my ideas caught up with me. So within a week or so we had hatched a plan…..
We became friends, as you might guess, due our love of sewing. Vanessa is a fantastic dressmaker and graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a First Class BA (Hons) in Fashion and Textiles Design. She has worked in various roles within the industry and now has her own business, Devon Dressmaker.
So what’s the exciting plan?
Next year we will be hosting Sewing Retreats!
It is something I have thought about for at least the last 4 years and have decided to finally do it. Our plan is to run 2 Sewing retreats next year…. Actually they are ‘Luxury’ Sewing Retreats. We are lucky having some beautiful venues in Devon and have already booked the first retreat location.
The “Heart of Devon” retreat will take place Friday to Sunday, 23rd to 25th April 2021 at the luxury ‘Two Bridges Hotel’ on Dartmoor.
We have planned a series of workshops/demos that cover a range of sewing related topics: Pattern drafting, Fitting, Couture techniques and others, so you can learn new skills during the retreat. Of course we still want you to bring a project to work on but we want you to learn new skills too. We certainly want you to have fun and enjoy the luxurious venue (including award winning food!).
Rather than fill my blog posts up, we have created a new website especially for our venture at SWSew.co.uk where you can read all about our first retreat.
We understand that you might still have worries regarding COVID but we have taken all possible steps to help. The venue will be abiding to any laws and we have booked the Fountain room, which is capable of holding 130; we will have a limit of 25 guests so social distancing can be adhered to if necessary.
Exciting times and let’s hope things have returned to some form of normal so we can all enjoy ourselves.
We hope to see you in 2021 on our first retreat!
Until next time…..Happy Sewing!
